TAST French Knots

This is a WIP for this weeks TAST.   The graphic is by Janet M. Davies and found at http://www.jmddesigns.co.nz/tutorials/applique_butterfly_tutorial.htm.  She has some great stuff on her blog and I get lost for hours viewing it.

My very first crazy quilt block.  Doesn't feel quite finished yet, but unless I put it aside for a moment my mind will keep going around in circles about it.  The bird was from a pattern on the French Knots web site.  There are so many great patterns there!  I also tried my hand at the trellis stitch.  Not quite right but had fun doing.

Orange spots

orangespots
For some reason my camera’s exposure is too bright and I have no idea how to fix it.  Guess I need to RTM real soon.
On a different note, I am making my first quilt and wanted to tack it.  It is way too heavy for me to do any thing else to it.  I needed a frame to work on and the prices I found were way out of my budget so I made my own.

Another panel

Another panel for the quilt.  Finished two but, couldn't get a nice picture of other one.  Will try again tomorrow!  This is so much fun.  I never have a project completely planned out when I start on it.  Playing in my supplies is so much fun!  Some of which I forgot were there.  The tree pattern came from Wee Folks Art.  They have a nice selection of applique to choose from.

I started with the idea of making a quilt as a venue for some of the small pieces I had embroidered.  The quilt is made of recycled jeans.  Here is one of the panels to go on it.  The quilt is to be for one of my grand daughters, so I included some of her favorite things.  This owl and many of the other pieces came from the DMC website. and the stump was found at http://weefolkart.com/?q=node/271.

Barred Chain

This was interesting.  At first I thought I was doing it wrong because I am a southpaw and it takes a minute for me to find my stride.  Then I realized it was where you place your barb.

Basque Stitch

I like this stitch.

Closed Feather Stitch

This little stitch gave me a lot of problems because I have a tendency to have tight stitches and that caused me to have to pick it out a lot..

Stem Stitch

I had a piece of bookmark fabric so I did the stem stitch on it.  I tried it in a few different threads and found I like this one best.  The rayon makes a beautiful shiny stitch but it frays to bad. This one is DMC cotton perle #5. My stash is very small so I know what I am going to be asking Santa for Christmas!

Detached Chain Stitch

I pray Carol Leather doesn't behead me for murdering her strawberry at http://www.needlework-tips-and-techniques.com/lazy-daisy-stitch.html .  I am going to try it again after I get a little proficient at embroidery.

The strawberry was done in 5 coton perle and  the fireworks were done with stranded cotton.

I am trying to learn to embroidery.  It seems like I don't have the nack for photography but I am still gonna keep trying.  This is a pocket for an apron!  I have used hot-fix crystals on my cards and thoought I would try on cloth.
